"This home started as a contractor build home, and this was the space that was allocated for the dining table," says designer Stacey Cohen. The clients loved the dining table along with the tulip foundations came out of tables we found at Ikea. The shirt is stained in the exact same grey stain as the floors, which gave it a rich colour without being too much of a dramatic shift. The banquette pulls out on each end to store placemats and kids' stuff."

In accordance with designer Vanessa Deleon, for a family that loves to entertain, an integrated booth with island access is a good way to provide extra seating where everyone gathers. "The island is obviously the core of the kitchen, so people may congregate by the island and about the 30-inch high table versus a normal 36- or 42-inch pub. It's especially nice with small kids," says Vanessa.
