Houseplants are comfy, buddies.

Luxe Fabrics "The addition of lusher, richer textures that match existing decor is an instant way to make any room feel a cozier," says interior designer Caitlin Murray of Black Lacquer Design. "Fur, velvet and Mongolian lamb are my favorite fabrics to coating for this cuddled-up vibe. The wonderful thing about these substances is that a tiny bit here and you will totally transform the feel of a room," she says. Her guidance for incorporating these materials in your living room? "Add a velvet pillow into a chair, or toss a faux-fur throw over your sofa for an instant dose of cozy."

Historic Brick information Working with a classic residence and a contemporary design aesthetic? Instead of demolishing interval design office partition walls used . consider hanging on to it -- for cozy's sake. Designer Rafe Churchill of Hendricks Churchill LLC explains how old and new work together to make a feeling of relaxation. "We love old insides, particularly when utilizing modern furnishings. We think there's some sort of nesting effect which occurs between a historical house and its modern inside," Rafe says. This gorgeous living room is no exception. "By keeping the existing millwork and paneling and then supplying with modern pieces, this living area seems to practically acknowledge the history of the house and even finds comfort in it."

Holistic Approach Interior designer Sarah Barnard requires a holistic approach to style, incorporating healthy, natural materials to promote wellness. In this living room, she used eco-friendly furnishings, raw fibers and organic textiles. "Developing a restorative environment begins with sustainable alternatives," she states. "Even the smallest choices thing and can have profound consequences on our health and the environment" Sarah also included the homeowner's treasured collection of mineral specimens in this area, which matches with her general design mantra. "Live with what you love," she urges. "Surround yourself with beauty and positive energy"

Sizable Sectional Nothing says welcome like an oversized sectional couch. It's the perfect tool for creating an immediate sense of casual relaxation. Choose wisely, along with your sectional can simultaneously establish coziness and sophistication, like the emerald green stunner in this living area by Jette Creative. "We wanted it to be a livable space for family nights watching TV, but also a room to have business -- a space where the children could roll around, but also [a space] that may allow for mature parties," says Jesse DeSanti, chief designer of Jette Creative. "We could bridge those through the heavy, long sectional that really grounds the space in its own dimensions, softness and color."

Oversized Upholstered Ottoman Instead of a traditional coffee table, try an upholstered ottoman to make your space more comfortable and livable. Interior designer Jenn Feldman explains why she chose in this living space. "We opted for an oversized upholstered ottoman with a soft silhouette that might easily be utilized for entertaining needs, adults to rest their feet, or for smaller kids to jump and play on," she states. "This ottoman packs a potent design punch with a gorgeously soft performance fabric that contrasts with the tonal blue to the walls, art and other fabrics in the space. The outcome? A living room that will make you need to kick up your feet and stay awhile!"

Conversation Circle Try out the trick that's worked for ages: the dialogue circle. It does not need to feel overly formal or obsolete. Here, Jenn created a conversation ring which feels casual and inviting. "Rather than using a traditional sofa-and-chair layout, we opted for four oversized, upholstered swivel chairs which created a comfortable, laid-back conversation circle, all while retaining the room polished and pulled together in grown-up whites," Jenn says.

Natural Wood Interior designer Ginger Curtis of Urbanology Designs says natural wood is a go-to when she's trying to earn a big, open living room feel warm and inviting. "The utilization of natural timber in a living room not only acts as a decorative or functional feature, but it might provide balance by adding warmth and texture," she says. "It's a natural element that reminds you of character and provides a cozy, unfussy look and texture to a modern space." She suggests installing large beams, plank partitions or raw walnut flooring for important effect or a handmade wood table as an accent piece.

Fireplace Focal Point If you are lucky enough to have a fireplace, make it the star of the series. A fireplace is inherently comfy, therefore by designing your space, you ensure a sense of automatic comfort. Carefully curate the accessories and art that encircle it to draw the eye, like inside designer Lexi Westergard failed here. "My client wanted to have a picture of her children above the fireplace, so we layered some classic art pieces round the space to help make a more relaxed and curated appearance," Lexi says. She clarifies that the sconces assisted finish the vignette and the distance as a whole. "They gave the choice to add mood light at night and further improved the capability to make an ideal, cozy space."

Large-Scale Photos Don't be afraid to incorporate photos in a bold manner. Meaningful photography may create intimacy in a way that basic artwork can't. Large-scale, black-and-white photos work especially well from a style standpoint. Interior designer Wendy Blackband states the horse photograph in this living area brought both color and character to the space. "The black and white photograph added the bright white. [It is] amazing but also quirky," she states.

Rustic Accents When working together with white walls, such as the ones in this living room from Lexi Grace Design, it is very important to layer in warmth. Lexi's advice on how best to do it? "Any element that brings the outdoors in is a great way to add contrast and a bit of coziness into a bright, white space," she says. Here, a reclaimed wood mantel and a tree stump turned side desk do just fine.

Tonal Palette Interior designer Sarah Stacey proposes trying a tonal palette with a minimum use of layout to attain a comfortable, peaceful living space. "I believe people are so busy, and this kind of design is relaxing and calming. It helps for you and to allow your eyes to break," she says. To do this look, Sarah recommends swapping out patterned draperies and cushions for solids. Find routine in carpets or architectural components, rather. "Pick 1 color and select varying colors of this," she says. "Then, venture in the closest color on the wheel to get a little kick, but keep it at the exact same tone to allow for a smooth flow and transition"

Floor Lamps Lighting is elemental in making living room ambiance. What kind of light emits that soft, warm glow you crave when snuggled up on the couch? A lamp, of course. Instead of sticking to fundamental table lamps, interior designer Kirsten Krason of House of Jade Interiors advises a arc floor lamp. "We adore using invoice floor lamps to fill visual space and draw your attention in," she says. "A layered floor lamp using a side table generates much more visual interest than just a side table using a table lamp."

Plenty of Pillows Would you ever have too many pillows? They are a quick (and relatively budget-friendly) way to deliver texture, pattern and colour to your living room -- all at the blink of an eye! Take a cue from this gorgeous living area by Jenn Feldman, and proceed for a layered appearance. The game? "A sofa and a room that nobody ever wants to leave!" Jenn says.

Layered Rugs It's a no-brainer that a rug-clad floor is cozier than the bare 1, but have you ever contemplated layering multiple carpets? Interior designer Breeze Giannasio is all for it. She states it works especially well to highlight one particular area within a larger living space. Creating zones inside a spacious room promotes a more intimate atmosphere. "Here, I loved the idea of layering the sheepskin to bring in feel and make contrast with the seat swing to really highlight its suspension," Breeze says.

Bookshelves With Personality "Creating layers inside bookcases is the trick to making a room feel warm and comfy," says designer and architect Kerra Michele Huerta. How did she do it? "I mixed new and old together, in addition to combined plenty of materials and textures, to add depth and create this blank, white space feel full," Kerra informs us. How do you do it in your home? Fill your shelves with varied accessories and books -- old and new -- which are meaningful to your loved ones, and pay attention to the combination of textures within each shelf.

Dark, Inky Shade Though all-white walls are still ultra-popular, heavy, dark-hued interiors are on the rise. Dark walls -- or even only a dark accent wall, like the one in this eclectic living room -- work to create a sense of closeness within a living space. Not convinced? Interior designer Noz Nozawa clarifies why it works: "Though it can seem like dark paint in a living area would feel heavy or dim, in practice, it can be the reverse! In a room where the walls are dark but the trim is light, the contrast brings focus to the windows and the light in the windows, creating a room that feels bold and dramatic, but still glowing!"

Textured Paneling "Enhancing warmth does not always require a visit to the colour wheel. Rich textures and intriguing architectural details infuse warmth just as well!" says interior designer Marie Flanigan. "My aim was to keep things bright and light in this complex guest home, so I picked for a soothing white color and delivered warmth through the use of a texture-rich wall application," she says of this white-paneled living room. "Don't be reluctant to reimagine the classics. I fell in love with how oversize reveals offer a fresh, contemporary spin on conventional shiplap paneling, creating a room that feels both homey and delightfully unexpected."

Houseplants A self-proclaimed "plant lady," designer Joanna Gaines is really the queen of houseplants. Her living rooms -- that one being no exception -- are indicated by fabulous design, a genuine sense of coziness and plenty of houseplants. What should we take away from this? Houseplants are comfy, buddies. It is time to work in your own green thumb.

Fresh Greenery So, you're pretty sure you'll never have a green thumb? That's fine, since fresh-cut greenery can bring the exact same feeling of warmth and relaxation that houseplants do. Interior designer Amy Zolin says the perfect method to incorporate greenery would be to think about your space and consider what's just outside. With this living space in Redding, Conn., she produced a java table arrangement of blueberry bush branches. "I picked the material because of its simplicity in form and also the mention of what grows on the land. Bringing the outdoors in is a key element to our design philosophy," Amy explains. "This room is casual in character but also very big in scale, and the branches filled the space of their 10.5-foot ceilings without needing too much attention from your view overlooking the property."

Practical Comfy Furniture When designing the hangout heart of the house, it's vital to take into account the practicality and comfort of furniture. Do not worry -- this could be achieved with fashion in mind. Have a cue from designer Sandie Tsai's fantastic yet practical living area. "We had wanted to do some wonderful leather sofa, but because this is a rental flat, we didn't know how long we'd be here where we would end up next," Sandie states. "We ended up with this particular couch from Ikea. That couch has definitely been loved on!" Sandie also utilized two condos instead of a coffee table to ensure the space was flexible.
