Bright chartreuse false cypress really liven up the landscape and set beautifully with the home's sunny yellow front door.

about image

To further lighten the property's outside, Joanna swapped the brick in the low planters for gray piled stone.

Before: Plain Jane With overgrown landscaping and a disappear-into-the-background white paint color, this California bungalow was usually considered one of the least attractive houses on the block. Narrow, winding stairs and an overgrown trumpet vine and small tree which block the front door add to the house's uncared-for appearance.

Following: Colorful Cottage To make the house pop, designer John Gidding chooses bright yellow to your siding and cheery turquoise to the front door. The winding staircase are straightened and widened to draw attention to the front entry that's shaded by a honeysuckle-coverered arbor. The homeowners are not big fans of mowing the grass so John eliminated the lawn in favour of a broad stone path flanked by low-maintenance plants.

Before: Hidden Gem Overgrown vegetation, ramshackle wood siding and a dangerous front porch unite to provide this rambling Texas ranch a haunted home look.

After: Ranch-Style Standout Fixer Upper's Processor and Joanna Gaines worked their magic to give the previously rundown ranch a massive curb appeal boost. Thanks to a bit of selective trimming, front lawn's ancient tree is now an asset instead of an eyesore while the present cedar siding has been brought back to life with a fantastic sanding and cleaning to show new wood prior to resealing. A low stacked stone wall and fresh landscaping soften up the faade.

Before: Faded Belle The homeowners are a couple of the French Quarter's most vibrant characters but their residence's vanilla facade is definitely missing. A tumble of weeds fill the beds that line the porch along with the concrete set-back architectural glass railings . or little area that divides the house from the sidewalk, is broken and unlevel.

After: Big Style in the Big Easy Jason Cameron comes to the belle's rescue with kicky paint colours, a bluestone patio to replace the crumbling concrete and a cast-stone fountain. The weedy beds are given a tropical makeover with dwarf pygmy date palms and striped stromanthe that tie in with the home's new colour palette.

Before: A Architectural Mismatch Dubbed "the cargo boat house" by Fixer Upper's Chip Gaines, this long, gray and dull exterior was surely short on charm. The ranch-style brick portion was originally constructed in 1958 using the wood-clad second narrative tacked on as a later addition.

After: An Artful Accession Wow, what a transformation! Chip and Joanna dramatically took this house from sad to stately with a porch bump-out which has post-and-beam building, horizontal railing and a flagstone porch and stairs. Woodsy green paint, new windows and black shutters further enhance the home's curb appeal.

Before: Overgrown Adobe The black sheep of this street, this tiny Spanish Colonial Revival-style home built in the 1920s, is a rarity in suburban Atlanta. It has the potential to be a real gem in the area but with a barren yard, overgrown arbor and faded stucco, it stands out because of its rundown look.

After: Spanish-Style Standout The the Curb Appeal team start the makeover in the curb for this one, creating wide tile-accented measures which lead from the street to the brand new front porch that spans the entire length of the house's facade. The front yard is replaced with a circular stone courtyard surrounded by rugged ferns, petunias and banana plants.

Ahead: Past Its Prime Constructed in 1959, this midcentury modern rancher is not the typical candidate for a makeover in Fixer Upper Chip and Jo's signature farmhouse design but the home's size and location won over the homeowners.

After: Mid-Mod, Made-Over A fresh coat of white paint brightens up the previously muddy brick whilst cedar mullions upgrade the home's signature midcentury modern architectural characteristicbeneath the floor-to-ceiling corner window. A matching cedar front door and window boxes tie in the window's brand new look. To further lighten the property's outside, Joanna swapped the brick in the low planters for gray piled stone. Low plantings of ferns, ornamental grasses, dwarf laurels and Indian hawthorn replace the Property's leggy, overgrown boxwoods.

Ahead: Hiding in Plain Sight Evergreens are fantastic for year-round color in your landscape but if you don't intend to consistently keep them trimmed, then they can grow too large to work as foundation plants.

After: Can't-Miss Yellow Cousins Anthony Carrino and John Colaneri eliminate the overgrown evergreens, replacing them with oakleaf hydrangeas, hostas and bronze-leafed heuchera. Bright chartreuse false cypress really liven up the landscape and set beautifully with the home's sunny yellow front door.

Before: Dark and Forboding Recessed doors are excellent because your entry is guarded from the weather -- but they tend to be dark. Painting the door black does not help to brighten up things.

After: Warm Welcome A few coats of fuchsia paint require this previously ho-hum front door from drab to fab. The cheery pink motif is carried to strands flanking the door filled with bouganinvillea and candytuft. The terracotta tile measures and board-and-batten siding also receive a makeover with fresh coats of warm, neutral paint.

Before: Well-Built however Bland With all-brick construction, large windows and a circle drive, this home has good bones however its monochromatic colour palette and uninspired landscaping could use a pick-me-up.

After: Timeless Transformation Fixer Upper's Processor and Jo pulled off a big   update for minimal effort with only a couple of swaps. They substituted the uninspired rows of boxwoods with decorative grasses and other non growers so they do not compete with the house's original long windows. To provide the entryway more presence, front door market was eliminated and Jo added a set of beveled glass French doors surrounded by large glistening black planters and matching gas light-style lanterns.

Before: Haunted House? The proprietors of the century-old San Francisco house are parents to five children, including two sets of twins, so yardwork and house maintenance has taken a back seat to increasing their family. This residence is also, not surprisingly, a hub of action each Halloween if the owners place the Victorian's forboding seems to use as the neighborhood haunted house.

After: High-Style Victorian John discovered that the house was white since its structure (120 years ago!) So in keeping with authentic Victorian style, he chose not to less than seven paint colours to truly create this painted lady the neighborhood showstopper. To complement the historic architecture, the Curb Appeal team replaced front yard using a parterre -- a formal garden composed of symmetrical hedges and planting beds joined by paths.

Before: '60s Modernist The current owners were attracted to the home's Modern aesthetic and streamlined particulars but the ho-hum landscaping is definitely lacking. Three generations of a single family live here and want to have the ability to use the hilly, uneven front yard as much more of a gathering and entertaining area.

After: A Nod to Midcentury Mod Designer John Gidding made a decision to conserve the present mature trees, creating a huge deck to encircle them. The uneven front yard is elimated with a concrete retaining wall that brings the deck up front door elevation. Concrete planters at street level are filled with boulders, agave and desert grasses while rosemary tumbles across the walls in the deck.

Before: '70s Mish-Mash NYC techies, tired of cramped quarters, decided to relocate to Texas where everything is bigger. Browsing homes online, they found this split level whose recently remodeled interior had what they were looking for and they quickly decided to purchase it -- without seeing the home in person. As soon as they proceeded, they discovered that the home's exterior was desperately in need of a remodel too.

After: Neutral Organic Contractor Jason Cameron along with the Desperate Landscapes team come to their rescue with a fresh neutral colour palette that better blends the house's siding with the piled stone facade. Boulders and layers of drought-tolerant, native plants, like the blooming Texas redbud, ensure that this fully landscaped front lawn will be simple for the homeowners to maintain.

Ahead: The Neighborhood Eyesore Constructed in 1927, this huge house sat vacant and uninhabitable for several years prior to a brave couple bought it in the city of Waco to get a mere $24,000. Then they worked with Fixer Upper's Processor and Jo to turn the derelict house into a gracious home.

After: The Neighborhood All-Star Would you think this attractiveness was hiding behind the overgrowth? Processor and Jo cleared the land around the house so that they could start fresh with new sod and plantings. The house's existing porches were unsafe so that they were rebuilt however, the nearly century-old windows were salvaged with fresh leading and a new coat of crisp, white paint. A new broad concrete pathway, lined with variegated fighter marijuana, beckons visitors to wander up onto the front porch.

Before: Blank Slate The homeowners purchased this home two years back but with three young boys -- two with specific requirements -- all their energy and finances go toward the kids, leaving nothing for fixing the front yard.

Following: Craftsman Cutie The homeowners want to have the ability to relax in the backyard when keeping your eye on their young boys and chatting with neighbors. Designer John Gidding delivered by expanding their too-small front porch and incorporating new measures which lead down to a wide walkway flanked by a long curving bench. A low gated wall divides front lawn from the sidewalk and really makes the front lawn feel like an outdoor area.

Before: Tattered Belle The young couple inherited this massive home from an elderly relative. Years of deferred maintenance -- peeling paint and an overgrown juniper bush -- have left this home the neighborhood eyesore.

Following: Grand Dame To return this tasteful home to its elegant roots, that the Curb Appeal team beefs up the moldings enclosing the entryway and windows. Look-at-me colours and a two-tone palette create the home feel much larger. An usable low place to the rear of the entrance is changed into a sunken deck surrounded by planters full of cheery annuals that tie into the home's magenta front door and tall cypress trees for elevation.

Before: Overgrown Bachelor Pad Fifteen years as home base to a mentor with no time or interest in yard care has caused a front yard so overgrown that a family of bull once moved in and took up residence. Now married, the young California couple who own this house are ready to clean up their act but do not know where to begin.

After: Manicured Zen Garden Mixed in with the weeds were a lot of boulders and rocks so designer John Gidding decided to work them in the design. Ornamental grasses, pieris Japonica, loropetalum along with other low-maintenace plants match together with the backyard's Zen feel while being easy to look after so the homeowners can maintain the backyard's good looks.

Before: Forgotten Front Yard Located in a desired Atlanta suburb, this Cape Cod-style home ought to be among the highlights on the road but instead the overgrown, weedy lawn, broken weapon and peeling paint make it an eyesore.

Following: Open and Inviting The that the Curb Appeal group start by demoing the metallic fence to open up the property to the road in which a stone path leads to the house that's been freshly painted in cool blue with a pop of cheery yellow on front door. The homeowners were not big fans of mowing the grass so John removed it in favour of mulch and ornamental grasses.

Before: Reno Gone Wrong Selected from countless entrances as America's most distressed landscape, this residence outside San Diego is an embarassment not only for the homeowners but for the whole neighborhood. The lawn is unlevel, full of weeds and littered with the remains of home improvement jobs gone bad.

After: California Cool Contractor Jason Cameron and the Desperate Landscapes team start by removing the building debris, then the improvements begin with a brand new travertine terrace shaded by a compact wood slat pergola. The existing boulders are moved to the lot's corner where they're joined by tons more rock to get a royal accent. The landscaping goes from lacking to lush with mature native trees and shrubs and also the siding and garage door get a fresh coat of paint.

Before: Failing Fixer-Upper The first time homebuyers fell in love with this century-old home's possible but, bogged down from interior jobs, they do not have time to tackle the front yard or porch where siding-clad supports produce a dark, claustrophobic feel and are not original to the house's Craftsman style.

Following: Charming Craftsman John replaces the siding-clad columns for Craftsman-style tapered timber columns which are more in keeping with the house's unique character. The couple just used the front lawn for a path from the driveway therefore John swapped out the little lawn for a new, broad walkway surrounded by heuchera, pentas, succulents and low-maintenance grasses.

Before: Bland and Boring Having a very small front lawn and style-less facade, this clapboard house in Atlanta, Georgia does not have much going for it.

Following: Folk Victorian With such a small lot, landscaping takes a back seat to enhancing the property's architecture. John and team extract all the stops by adding layers of gingerbread-style trim that is reminiscent of true Victorian architecture. So the home's most important color doesn't detract from the trim details, the team paints it a warm neutral tan saving the cool purples and blues for the trimming. To finish the fairytale look, a picket fence lines the front and a brick path leads to the front door.
